   Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, South Dakota, at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, with military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard.
1.  The family of Myron Van Gerpen U.S. Air Force Retired has requested Patriot Guard Riders and American Legion Riders provide an escort to the interment service at Black Hills National Cemetery. The funeral was already held in Yankton, SD. Escort details are:

Staging time:  2:30 PM MST
Staging location:  Parking area at admin building at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Kick stands up:  2:50 PM
Interment Service:  3:00 PM
2. Due to COVID-19 restrictions at Black Hills National Cemetery, we are only providing an escort. We are not allowed to stop at the interment building and cannot stand a flag line at the cemetery.

Funeral mission

   The family of Lieutenant Colonel Myron D. “Van” Van Gerpen has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor “Van” with a flag line showing our appreciation and respect for his many years of service to our great Nation.

   “Van” enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 and in 1954 was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and obtained his pilot wings. He spent most of his Air Force career as a jet fighter pilot serving in Europe, Vietnam and many bases in the United States.  He retired after 24 years of service in 1975.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Monday, May 17, 2021, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, SD.  Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota, at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, with military honors provided by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard.

STAGE – 12:45 PM, Monday, May 17th, 2021 at Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, 2901 Douglas Avenue, Yankton, SD.

Flags will be provided.

   For your own safety and the safety of others, we are asking any members that choose to attend this mission to be prepared to comply with the “Covid Safety” mask and distancing recommendations, if requested by the family, the funeral home or is required by the community that you are in.
