The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the Sioux Empire Fair Board, again this year to display our flags in honor of our Military Veterans, Active Military, SD Military Killed In Action during the War on Terrorism and Emergency First Responders. The response of the attendees last year at the fair, to the members of the Fair Board, was so good that we were contacted before the end of 2016 to ask if we would be able to return again this year. They have chosen a different location this year that is a prime location and have allowed us to have member’s bikes set up as part of our display. The centerpiece of our set up will be our 30′ x 50′ flag on a ladder truck from our greatest sponsor, Rosenbauer Fire Equipment.
The fair this year will open 5:00 pm on Friday, August 4th and will run until the evening of Monday, August 13th at the Sioux Falls Fair Grounds, 100 N Lyons Blvd, Sioux Falls, SD . We will be setting up starting at 10:00 am on Friday, the 4th and our big flag will go up at 4:30 pm. The KIA flags will be placed on both sides of the canopy and the ladder truck with the big flag will be on the black top in front of us and we will have some new banners displayed this year also. We will need to have some members available to help out with the set up and to get organized for manning the area each day throughout the fair. The veteran members have free admittance but can only bring their bikes in if they have a Vehicle Pass and the members that are not veterans will need a Gate Pass and a Vehicle Pass if they want to have their bike there. There will be other rules for having your bikes at our area so if you plan to bring your bike you will need to contact me to arrange for the dates and times so that I can make sure you have your necessary passes.
We have been asked to raise the big flag at 10:00 am every morning during the fair and the National Anthem will be done at the same time as the flag goes up. We can always use some experienced help putting the flag up and lowering and rolling it each day, so keep that in mind. We had a lot of volunteers last year to help with the flag but as I said some experience is helpful.
The fair is getting close so please let me know , as much as you can, when you will be available to help out. Last year was a great opportunity to interact with the public and introduce the PGR to them and also to recruit. It was also a fun and good time to spend with our fellow members.
