September 22 & 23, 2019
The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of Harry W. Luurs to show our appreciation and respect to Harry with a flag line in honor of his service to his and our great Nation. Harry served his country in the United States Marine Corps, 7th Engineering Division.
Harry began his career at the young age of six at the knee of his father, Dick Luurs. Harry would go to work with his dad who ran heavy road equipment for Charles Mix County, thus began his love of building roads and bridges. He worked as a highway department foreman for 16 years with Charles Mix County before moving his family to Bison, S.D., where he became the highway superintendent of Perkins County for the next four years. In 1971, Harry took the job of highway superintendent for Yankton County, where he retired in 1994 after 23 years of service.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at First United Methodist Church in Yankton. Flag Line and Escort
September 24, 2019
Sioux Falls Regional Airport
The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to stand flag line for a “welcome home” of the “Smithfield Foods Flight”. This will be the fifth Honor Flight of Veterans returning from a tour of the Veterans’ Memorials in Washington D.C. They will be returning on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport with a scheduled time for arrival of 7:55 pm.
We have been asked to post a corridor of flags, in their honor, in the lobby. They will exit through the lobby to the buses that will be waiting in front of the terminal. When they have all boarded the buses they will be taken to the Arena where family, friends and all others will be waiting to welcome them back from their journey. The Patriot Guard Riders have also been asked to escort the buses from the airport to the Arena and resume our flag line in the Arena as the Veterans exit the buses. If you have flags for your bike, we would like to be flagged up for the escort.
Stage: 7:30 pm on Tuesday, September 24th, at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. **IMPORTANT ** The riders will need to stage in the Cell Phone lot with the buses until it is confirmed that the plane has landed. (The Cell Phone lot is located on the north side of the entrance to the terminal off of Minnesota Ave.) We will be notified when we can move to the terminal to get lined up for the escort to the Arena. I will have the flags ready for the flag line in the lobby when the bikes are set in front of the terminal for the escort.
Flags will be provided.
