A request by the family of Mervin O. Iverson has been sent to the Patriot Guard Riders for a flag line honoring, showing our respect and our appreciation for Mr. Iverson’s service to his and our great country.  Merv entered the United States Marine Corps on August 12th, 1943 and went to basic training in San Diego, CA at Camp Pendleton.  He also served in Goleta, California and at the Ewa Airbase in Hawaii.  His assignment was to handle aircraft care and maintenance of the F4U fighter planes.  His flight crew carried upper command officers, such as colonel’s and generals, touring various locations in the South Pacific.  He was part of a flight to Japan that inspected and photographed the aftermath of the Hiroshima atomic explosion that was in part the end of the war in the pacific.  He proudly served from 1943 until honorably discharged in 1946.
