South Dakota Veterans’ Cemetery
The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of Merdean “Dean” Sampson to show our appreciation and respect to “Dean” with a flag line in honor of his service to his and our great Nation. Following graduation from High School, Dean enlisted in the United States Army in 1956, and later enlisted in the United States Air Force. During Dean’s military career in both the US Army and the Air Force, he was deployed on a number of important active-duty assignments. Notably, he was part of the 728 Military Police Battalion, Charlie Company at the end of the Korean War. He served on assignments in both Norway and England, was deployed to Panama for Operation Just Cause Coronet Cove, and then served state side in Savannah, GA during the first Gulf War. He retired from the military as a Master Sergeant in 1997, at the age of 60.
Dean’s Graveside Service with Military Honors will be 3:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2026, at South Dakota Veterans’ Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation and Luncheon to follow at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD.
