The Family of PFC Gordon US Army has requested our assistance in escorting this soldier home.  This is an escort only.  Our part of this mission is to provide an escort from Rapid City to the Wyoming border.  We will stage in the Kirk Funeral Home Parking lot (1051 E Minnesota St, Rapid City, SD) at 0730 Sunday August 10, 2014 with kick stands up at 0800. Convoy speed will be 55 mph.  We will proceed from Kirk Funeral home to HWY 79 then merge onto HWY 79 to Hot Springs SD, we will take HWY 18 to the Wyoming border where the Wyoming PGR will take over.  If anyone from Custer or Hot Springs wants to join us at their locations figure the time out.  The Wyoming PGR said anyone that wants to continue on with them are welcome.  They will escort from there to Casper then up to Sheridan and turn it over at the Montana border.  It would be nice to have at least 6 bikes to do this mission to the Wyoming border.  This is approximately 100 miles one way make sure you are topped off before we start.  There is approximately 6 miles of road construction on Hwy 18.
For nearly 70 years, the fate of U.S. Army Pfc. Lawrence Samuel Gordon’s remains was a mystery. Gordon’s family knew he’d been killed on August 13, 1944 during the failed attempt to surround the Germans at the Falaise Gap in France. He was one of 44 casualties in his reconnaissance division. The remains of 43 were identified and returned to their families or buried overseas. Gordon was the only one unaccounted for … until now.
Ride Captain will be Steve Dutton, ASC
