   The family of Eugene “Gene” Taylor has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor “Gene” with a flag line showing our appreciation and respect for his service to his community and our great Nation.  Gene was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police, based in Ft. Hood, TX.  After his discharge, Gene returned to SD and was hired by the Mitchel Police Department where he served for five years.  He then moved to Salem to serve as a McCook County Deputy Sheriff for 5 years and then McCook County Sheriff for 28 years.  Gene retired from law enforcement in 2006.  He was a member of the American Legion in Salem, the South Dakota Peace Officers Association and the SD Sheriffs Association, serving as president in 1998.

Visitation with family present will be held on Sunday, March 23, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Monday, March 24, at Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota.  Burial will follow in the Canistota cemetery.  “Visitation will be “Flags Only”.

Stage: 9:00 am, Monday, March 24th, at Zion Lutheran Church, 350 W. Elm St., Canistota, SD.  The Patriot Guard Riders will be escorting to the Canistota Cemetery following the funeral service. 

Flags will be provided at the church and cemetery.
