The family of Darrell Wayne Ekeren has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor Darrell with a flag line showing our appreciation and respect for his service to our great Nation. Darrell enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1953 to 1957. He completed his basic training at Ft. Riley, KS. He received his GED in the service and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He served in the Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve after his his active duty was completed. He was a lifelong member of the Gayville American Legion #237 and the Yankton VFW post 791.
The Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Vangen Lutheran Church in Mission Hill with a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. There will be Military Honors at the Cemetery following the Funeral Service Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday July 2, 2025 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton. Visitation in Yankton on July 2nd will be “Flags Only”.
Stage: 12 pm, Thursday, July 3 at Vangen Lutheran Church, 300 3rd St, Mission Hill, SD.
Flags will be provided.
The Ride Captain will have a short briefing prior to the start of the flag line.
