The family of Lyle Dean Bly has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor Lyle with flags showing our appreciation, honor and respect for his service to our great Nation. Lyle was a hometown boy, born in Sioux Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and started his active duty. After completing his training, he was stationed in Kwan Ju, Korea, where he was briefly deployed to Vietnam. Following Korea, he served in Bentwaters, England, and was also deployed for a short time to Libya, North Africa.
Following his honorable discharge from active duty, Lyle returned to South Dakota where he worked for Northwestern Bell phone company as a lineman in Yankton and Elk Point, SD. While in Elk Point, he joined and served in the Iowa Air National Guard. In 1979, he and his family moved back to Sioux Falls when he transferred to the South Dakota Air National Guard and in In 1984, he became a full-time member of the 114th Fighter Wing. He participated in several deployments before retiring with 34+ years in the military.
Lyle’s Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 am Friday, October 31, 2025 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD. The family will be present to greet friends for a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm also at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at the SD State Veterans Cemetery at Noon. The Memorial Service and Memorial Visitation will be “FLAGS ONLY”.
