A flag line by the Patriot Guard Riders has been requested by the family of Orlie E. Hjellming to honor him and show our respect and appreciation for his service to his country in the U.S. Air Force. In January of 1951 he enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years. He trained at the San Antonio, Texas base and was stationed and attended school for Aircraft Mechanic at Sheppard AFB in Texas. He was then in Japan for 2 ½ years and then 8 months at Kinross AFB in Michigan. He received the Korean Service Medal; Merit Unit Commendation; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and Occupation Medal (Japan). He was honorably discharged in March of 1955 as a sergeant.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 13, 2017, with family present to greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory, Sioux Falls. This will be a “flags only” flag line.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 14, 2017, at First Christian Reformed Church, 2901 E 26th St., Sioux Falls, SD.
Stage: 8:30 a.m. at the church to prepare for the flag line and for a short briefing.
Flags will be provided for the flag line. Please remain aware of weather conditions and come prepared for possible changes that could occur while we are honoring Mr. Hjellming with our flag line.
