Brandon, SD

The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family of Harold Hiram Tellinghuisen to show our appreciation and respect to Harold with a flag line in honor of his service to his and our great Nation.  He served two tours of duty, one in Japan and then in Korea, between 1948 to 1951.  During his 2nd tour of duty he was wounded twice receiving two purple hearts.  His 1st injury hospitalized him for approx. 2 months and left him with shrapnel in his head.  Upon working his way back to the front lines, his second injury happened when a boulder from atop a mountain struck him and crushed the side of his face.    He went back to the hospital for a couple more months and returned home in Dec. 1951.  He was the first soldier from South Dakota to receive two purple hearts.
