An invitation by the family of Frank Gerard Caffrey has been sent to the Patriot Guard Riders for a flag line honoring their veteran, Frank, for his service to his country for almost half of his lifetime.
At barely 17 years old, Frank started what would become a 40+ year military career that included service in four branches of the armed forces. He first enlisted in the Navy for WWII. He was on the USS Lunga Point, which was an air craft carrier stationed in the Pacific Theatre. The USS Lunga Point was in several battles, including Iwo Jima. After the war, his ship brought back released POWs from Nagasaki, including some survivors from the Bataan Death March. This 4 year tour in the Navy started his military career. Frank then served in the Marines in the Korean war in 1950. He later served a short time with the South Dakota Air National Guard in Sioux Falls, and finished his service with 21 years as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sargent in the Minnesota Army National Guard in Luverne, MN.
