Internment/Military Honors

   The family of Darrel Eugene Wicks has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to honor Darrel with a flag line showing our appreciation and respect for his service to our great Nation.  Darrel joined the United States Navy after graduation and attended basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Facility in Illinois.  He was part of an elite group that was selected to serve in the Submarine Service; also known as the Silent Service.  He attended submarine school in New London, Connecticut.  He served on the James Madison SSBN-627 from 1966-69, during the Vietnam Era.  He traveled around the world, under water, multiple times.  He often spoke of the four separate times where he spent 84 consecutive days under water.

The Memorial mass for Darrel will begin at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 20 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Montrose. Visitation will begin at 5 pm on Monday, August 19 with a 6:45 pm rosary and 7 pm prayer service also at the church.  The visitation and memorial mass will be “Flags Only”.

Stage: 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 20 at Saint Patrick Catholic Cemetery, 255th St (Fuller Avenue), Montrose, South Dakota.

Flags will be provided.
